Raising the Minimum Drinking Age to 21 Alcohol is drinks such as beer and wine. It contains a substance that causes to loss of consciousness, which affect the thinking person. Drinking alcohol is one of the biggest problems facing the Australian community. The proportion of people at risk as a result of excessive drinking of alcohol 3200 people die and almost 81000 people admitted to hospital every year. The government is trying to reduce the risks that affect their health and their social situation because of it is impact on the public and especially minors. As a result, the government cares about its population and especially minors and believe that drinking alcohol has many threats to minors could lead to several problems and risks to lead of loss their lives and also because of its negative impact on health, mind and behaviour of minors. So, the government is trying to raise the drinking age to 21. This essay will discuss the positives and negatives for raising drinking age to 21. There are several positives for raising drinking age to 21. Firstly, alcohol adversely affect their health. For example, alcohol is containing ethyl alcohol is the substance adversely affect the mind that affect thinking, mood, and emotion of the person. In addition, The mind of the person grows and develops from the age of 15 to 24. So, alcohol has a toxic effect on the brain of a minor. Secondly, reduce the fatality rate. For instance, Increase dose of drinking alcohol may cause death because their bodies and small brains do not bear it. Statistics show that half of the males and females aged 14 to 24 die each year from drinking alcohol. Moreover, many fatal accidents; such as traffic accidents while crossing the road as well as car accidents due to loss of concentration and awareness that caused by drinking alcohol. Also, may negatively affect a person life which may lead increased incidence of suicidal in minors. Thirdly, lift the legal drinking age to 21 has positive affects to their behaviour. An example of the affect a person life to increase in violence. The Government believes that raising the age of drinking to 21 is the best ways to address the problem of violence caused by drinking alcohol. Furthermore,à for drinking alcohol affects the behaviour of the minors, such as aggression, anger and depression that caused by family problems and social. In fact, drinking alcohol negatively affects the lives of those people who under the legal age. Raising drinking age to 21 has several negatives. First of all, raising the drinking age to the age of 21 deprives them of their rights as adults.à some people believe the person who at 20 becoming an adult is entitled to vote, and live in private home away from their parents, and enter the military. For example, in the war withVietnamhas been reduced drinking to the age of 18 due to the death of many young people in the war to protect their country. So, they are considered adults and they can rely on themselves. In addition,à raising the drinking age to 21 to prevent them from enjoying life and doing as adults. Many countries have the legal drinking age of 18 as well. Secondly, raising the legal age of drinking does not prevent a minor from drinking. For instance, a minor can find someone for brings the alcohol for him, many under the age of 17 drinking alcohol; even though, they are prevented from drinking. Also, raising the legal age of drinking that prevents them from drink ing alcohol and can lead to minor went to the steals alcohol. In addition, raising the legal drinking age does not solve the problems resulting from underage drinking. Public Relations Theories Study Marketing Essay 1.0 Introduction Public relations have been acknowledged as a powerful tool in commutations for individuals, groups, organizations and nations to achieve their respected purposes. Whether the purpose is for profit or not, public relations process a key stage that conveys messages between different parties. Individuals even see it as imperative aids for career promotion. For the past couple of centuriesà ¼Ã
âwith the development of public relations techniques have become more and more sophisticated and, in a sense, more manipulative, the profession of public relations has become more important accordingly. As scholars, professionals and consultants explore further into this field; as a result, the theories are applied to multiple contemporary circumstances. Today, Public Relations, as a new and ever-improving profession or academic discipline, have taken on formats including, but not limited to, face-to-face and mediated communications to achieve goals for organizations and how strong relationships put these organizations in a strong competitive business position. In this essay, I will discuss how the Public Relations theories are applied in current environments given in the following three cases: The Case of Queensland floods Organization, in which Queensland volunteers, partnered with boutique PR agent Espresso Communications, launches a website to provide timely information for Queenslanders and establishes communications between people who are willing to help and those who need help; The case of Good Returns 100 Women campaign, which the organization uses pro-bono PR to help raise fund and provide microfinance for poor women in South Asia to start their own business and improve livelihood skills; The case of Malaysian Kitchen Food Market. Malaysian Kitchen Food Market introduces a campaign that MATRADE to improve awareness of Malaysian cuisine and restaurants in Australia. The first two are examples of PR practices for nonprofit organizations while the latter is considered a commercial case. In each of the three cases, organizations are creating communication that strengthens relationships of stakeholders to achieve their purposes by utilizing a combination of PR techniques through carefully selected media and detailed implementation plans. 2.0 Theory for Application in Case Analysis In this section, I will analyze and evaluate the role and application of public relations theory and practice in the commercial and public sectors using Grunigs models of PR practice and other models and theories. Based on Grunigs four models of PR practice, the following points are helpful in devising and implementing effective public relations (Harrison, 2011): 1. Press agentry, publicity, propaganda can be used to complete truth but not essential area in One-way, such as sports, theater and marketing promotion etc. 2. Public information can be used for truth important such as readability, readership surveys, government, not-for-profit and organizations etc. 3. Two-way asymmetrical can be used for persuasion, marketing PR and improve acceptance of the message from feedback of receivers. 4. Two-way symmetrical can be used to creates mutual understanding between sender and receivers such as in regulated business and flat-structured companies. 2.1 Dissemination of Public Information In determination of a publics communicative needs, does the public merely need to be provided with information, encouraged to alter a belief or to act on an issue, or sent feedbacks? Basic public relations activities are relatively simple and require only modest tools simple press release, work with the media, assemble a press kit and coordinate a press event. Development of these skills will enable nonprofit managers to accomplish key goals of increased awareness for fundraising events, volunteer opportunities and organizational programs, products or services. In the case of Queensland Floods, the first and foremost object for this nonprofit organization is to provide information for the people needed help in a timely manner. Public information display is the objective. Traditional media and new media are both used. Social media, relatively new channels, this is more like one-way information. While in the case of Malaysian, this organization tries to persuade receivers` perception on Malaysian food in order to shift their consumer behavior to make more benefit to the Malaysian restaurants. Many traditional media are interactional campaigns are held to support. While in the case of Good Returns 100 Women campaign, this is also a nonprofit organization used multiple media and Internet to disseminate the information of a campaign in order to get build high awareness of the organization. It spread their activities strategically instead of focusing on a single media, and builds a movement through convening discussion, stimulating online dialogu e, generating word of mouth and media coverage about the campaign. 2.2 Choice of symmetrical or asymmetrical communication determines whether to use one-way or two-way communication to enact the informative, persuasive message. The primary issue to consider is whether the method of communication should be in the organizations best interest or the publics best interest. The choice of symmetrical or asymmetrical communication should be based on whether the selection ultimately benefits the organization, the publics, or the dominant coalition. Ideally, the choice will result in a win-win position. For example, in the case of Good Return Women, the choice of Two-way symmetrical communication works both in the benefits of the organization itself. In the case of Queensland Floods, this is a campaign using two-way symmetrical model to generate media buzz. Constant dialogue with key team members to ensure messages were consistent and all parties kept informed with the status of the campaign and Liaise with numerous local government bodies and the QLD Local Government Association to ensure that we had a full understanding of how we could best communicate with those affected evidence this PR model that is more likely to change the other parties attitude and behavior. An interact platform has been created for stakeholders, volunteers and victims of the flood in this case, before a research for receiving the details of flood variety and communication with QLD Local Government Association has been done. Research is an imperative stage for two-way model (Harrision, 2011). Media effects theories has been seen in this in Communication Strategy in this case. Understanding of the situation caused by flooding convinced receivers and swayed their attitudes, thus eventually led to actual actions. Also this case combined the Situational theory of public, during the communication process. Receivers realize the problems come, and then they probably start to think about it and what to do with it. High importance of the problem will cause high level of involvement, and subsequently receivers will be driven by the recognition to deal with it. 2.3 Multiple Messages Dissemination Publics may hold many different opinions about an organization based on the fact that the individuals that comprise a public do not have a static perception of the organization. That is, individual perceptions of an organization vary based on their interactional history with the organization. Therefore, multiple messages must be disseminated to accomplish the varying communicative needs of publics. 2.4 Relationships with stakeholders Corporate Responsibilities Management of publics should be seen as an opportunity to build or maintain relationships with stakeholders. Promoting issues of importance to a public is a good way to build coalitions, reach out to the media, and make connections with individuals of influence or those who may be interested in becoming involved with the organization. In the case of MATRADE, the campaign successfully increased popularity and established a clear definition of Malaysian food to the mind of Australians. As a commercial PR campaign, the practice and implementation is quite different from that of the Queensland Flood or the Good Return. It is important to underscore the connection between the public relations strategy and the organizational mission. Assess your public relations needs and tailor your plan accordingly. The PR practice generally follows an AWARENESS-INTEREST-DESIRE-ACTION model. (Grunig, 1984) Public relations practice is a channel to convey messages by persuading specific audiences to achieve successful professional performance, whether for commercial or nonprofit organizations. Its a set of actions to achieve desired outcomes based on research and strategies. However, sometimes dissonance between audience and group of stakeholders will be created when the interests of audiences and stakeholders are different on public relations. And given the rise of influence of stakehold ers on decisions, values, beliefs, policies and management of organizations, it is important to maintain effective stakeholders relationships and cater for the needs of different parties.

Health care has been a much needed but problematic institution for the United States over the last several decades. Particularly private companies have been the main cause of high premiums and the denial of coverage for the previously ill. In attempts to remedy these issues, Congress in conjunction with the President of the United States Barack Obama signed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). The PPACA is a federal state that focused on the reformation of the private health insurance market, provide better coverage for those with existing conditions, and improve the conditions of Medicare. Within this statute there is the section 1501 mandate, the Minimum Essential Coverage Provision, which requires every citizen, besides the exempt, to maintain a minimum level of health care by 2012. Those choosing not to participate will be subject to a momentary tax with their annual income tax returns. Since its creation, this particular mandate has caused a great deal of cont roversy. In early 2010, the Commonwealth of Virginia passed into law, a statute that forbade any type of mandate that would force citizens to purchase health insurance. They believed such a mandate would cause an immediate and continuing burden of the State and its citizens. Although it was created months before the PPACA statute it is clear the Virginia statute come in direct conflict with the federal mandate. It is the responsibility of the courts to solve this conflict between the two parties, Virginia and Kathleen Sebelius. The Commonwealth of Virginia has lodge a complaint with the about the constitutionality of the PPACA statute. Through the stateââ¬â¢s Attorney General, it challenges the enforcement of the statute due on part to section 1501 of th... ...only a choice between participation or retaliation. In New York v. U.S., the courts found that Congress cannot directly force states to legislate is accordance to their scheme. Forcing a state to participation or penalty is coercive in nature. This would counter the federalist structure outlined in the tenth amendment. In closing the constitutionality of this mandate is a minimum sketchy and often steps over the delicate boundaries allotted to Congress. Although there are a multitude of precedents to rule in favor of the defendant, doing so could leave a means in which to bring Congress unrestricted powers. Our goal is not to create a police State where the federalist structure becomes miniscule to the greater good of the poor, sick, and unfortunate. Although, the court supports the intentions of the PPACA statute the means of accomplishing them cannot be backed.

Women in Art Throughout history many artistic works have been deemed "great" and many individuals have been labeled "masters" of the discipline. The question of who creates art and how is it to be classified as great or greater than another has commonly been addressed by scholars and historians. The last quarter of the 20th century has reexamined these questions based on the assertions that no women artists have ever created or been appreciated to the level of "greatness" that perpetually befalls their male counterparts. The position that society has institutionalized on women as unable to be anything but subordinate and unexpressive is a major contributor to this claim. Giving a brief history of gender discrimination in the art field, examining different theories in regard to why women have been excluded from art history throughout the ages, and finally, discussing the contributions and progress that women artists and historians have achieved in the past two decades, will help to better under stand the complexity and significance of women artists. The early years of the 1990's mark the 20th anniversary of the women's movement in art. The exact date of the movement can not be ascertained due to the fact that there was such an immense number of things happening for the Women's Liberation movement at that time. For example, in the 1950s, pregnant teens were sent away for nine months to stay with distant relatives or to live in homes of unwed teen mothers. Movie Review â⬠The Help Essay
ââ¬Å"The Helpâ⬠based on a best-selling novel by Kathryn Stockett, a story of three women who take extraordinary risk in writing a novel based on the stories from the view of black maids and nannies. Set in Jackson, Mississippi in the early 1960s, a young girl sets out to change the town. Skeeter, who is 21 years old, white, educated from Ole Miss, dreams of becoming a journalist. She returns home to find the family maid, Constantine, gone and no one will explain to her what happened. Skeeter acquires a job as a columnist for the local paper at the being of the movie. Skeeter motherââ¬â¢s only concern is for Skeeter to find a husband. Skeeterââ¬â¢s ambition to become a writer starts with her idea to write a novel about from the view of the black maids and nannies in Jackson. Aibileen, who lost her son after he was ran over and dumped at a hospital, works as a maid for a family. She watches after the seventeenth child of a white family. Minny, Aibileenââ¬â¢s friend and a maid, raises children of her own and keep secrets of the white women she works for. The unlikely trio begins to write the stories of the life of the maid from their viewpoint. It is socially unacceptable and against the law in Mississippi to discuss integration. Skeeter needs to recruit more maids to tell their stories. However no maids are willing to help until a series of events happen that change their minds. The book published called ââ¬Å"The Helpâ⬠with all of the stories having hidden identities. The white women of the town begin to question who the true characters are and where the book is actually taking place. Some of the women swear up and down it is not Jackson to protect themselves from humiliation. The movie along with the book the three wrote during the movie depicts how life was really like in Jackson for black families. There are several areas within the movie that describe what live is Jackson was like. There is a scene in the movie where Aibileen was in the bathroom, built specifically for her because a white lady in the movies says that bla ck people have different diseases than white people. In several scenes in the movie, the maids travel on buses that are for black people only or are at the back of a bus with the white people at the front. Skeeter goes to theà library in Jackson and gets a book with information about segregation and the laws. Blacks could not attend the same schools and churches as the white people. The transferring of books between whites and blacks was not acceptable. They remained with whoever began using them first. They were to remain with the population that started using them. They also use separate entrances to public buildings. Aibileen tells the story of how her son died and explained that they the white bosses loaded him up in the back of a pickup after being ran over. They dropped him off in front of the colored hospital, honked the horn, and drove away. He later died at home with a collapsed lung because there was nothing the doctors could do to save him. The list above shows some of the issues that are within the movie about segregation and discrimination. The movie, filmed well, shows the different views of life and shows different things and values affect different people. There are several other movies that I have watched related to this one including Ali, a movie about an amazing African American boxer during the 60s and 70s and his way to winning the heavy weight title. Remember the Titans, a film related to integration of schools during the early 70s. The movie is about a new African American football coach that faces the challenges with a racially integrated football team.
How Television Has Impacted Technology Essay
Television was introduced in 1949 but very few people had it because it was extremely expensive. The only channels people could watch were NBC and CBS. Television became increasingly popular because it was entertainment without going and sitting in the movie theaters. As TV became more popular, it became more affordable. People would hear about television through word of mouth, news, radio and newspaper. Everybody liked the idea of being entertained and staying at home. By the 1960s most families has TV sets in their living rooms, depending on if they liked being entertained at home. Television in the United States has grown year after year and has made a big impact on American culture in many ways. TV has taken a big part in violence in society, the news, how people are stereotyped, childhood obesity, family values, social interaction, and so much more. In my opinion one of the biggest impacts that television has had on American culture is childhood obesity. Obesity is considered a form of malnutrition in which food energy is stored as fat due to being unused. Child obesity is bred within the home and the television is a major contributor to it. The energy we consume from food needs to be used up by the body on a daily basis through physical exertion. An overweight child devoting a major portion of time to watching television is at risk to becoming obese. Television is certainly a contributor to that obesity. Kids these days are getting bigger and bigger, while television shows are growing and growing. To me, that is a big issue and television affects it a lot. Back in the day children enjoyed going outside to play, getting involved in sports or just anything outdoors. I feel like as of today there are now only about a quarter of the kids that enjoy doing outdoors stuff like that. The other 75% of kids choose to stay inside because most likely there favorite TV show is on or there is a movie that they just have to watch. Those kids are losing their time to play outside and mainly burn and lose calories because they are just sitting there watching TV for hours and hours. Obesity is known to be one of the major health concerns among both children and adults in the United States today. It is suggested by certain groups that children should not watch more than two hours of television a day. This in my opinion is already too much because that is where childhood obesity all gets started. The average child n the United States regularly watches between 2-3 hours of television a day and many children now days have their own television set in their bedroom. Not only are children inactive while they are watching television, they often snack on unhealthy food choices. And like I said, establishing unhealthy food habits as a child can often continue into adulthood. Investi gators have hypothesized that television viewing causeââ¬â¢s obesity by one or more of three mechanisms: (1) displacement of physical activity, (2) increased calorie consumption while watching or caused by the effects of advertising, and (3) reduced resting metabolism. The relationship between television viewing and obesity has been examined in a relatively large number of cross-sectional epidemiologic studies but few longitudinal studies. Many of these studies have found relatively weak, positive associations, but others have found no associations or mixed results; however, the weak and variable associations found in these studies may be the result of limitations in measurement. Even studies for reducing the amount of television intake have been completed. They do not test ââ¬Å"reducing television timeâ⬠directly, but the results that they get may help to reduce the amount of risk for obesity or help promote weight loss in obese children. ââ¬Å"An experimental study was designed specifically to test directly the causal relationship between television viewing behaviors and body fatness. The results of this randomized, controlled trial provide evidence that television viewing is a cause of increased body fatness and that reducing television viewing is a promising strategy for preventing childhood obesity. â⬠I really think parents need to take a stand to their children by limiting the amount of time they spend in front of the television, before it gets too late and they have an obese child. Removing televisions from childrenââ¬â¢s bedrooms and putting time limits on the TV may be a good way for parents to reduce the risk of obesity in children. Parents must serve as role models because their television viewing habits influence their childrenââ¬â¢s. Parents should also limit the frequency of television viewing. Overweight and obese children need to be encouraged to do more physical activity such as walking, playing and limiting their television time. Children may also need structured physical activity times to divert them away from television. ââ¬Å"Although the increase in childhood obesity is not caused solely by television watching, Dr. Reginald Washington points out in the editorial that accompanies the articles, ââ¬Å"Society, as a whole, must realize that to effectively control and prevent this obesity epidemic, all risk factors must simultaneously be reduced. â⬠A study by the University of Liverpool psychologists has shown that it is to be true that obese and overweight children increase their food intake by more than 100% after watching food advertisements on television. Children all over the world are exposed to a huge number of TV advertisements, primarily for fast foods and sweets. Some say that it is not the amount of TV; it is the number of junk food commercials that advertise unhealthy foods and constantly play over and over. It is miserable that people blame television as a result to childhood obesity but the United States is starting to get very lazy when it comes to situations like this, therefore I truly believe TV is one of the dominate reasons of why children are becoming obese. I feel like this impact has been mainly negative on American culture. Television advertisers get talked down to by research groups, wanting them to take away all the unhealthy food commercials. Childhood obesity coming from television watchers makes American culture look very bad. When you find out that all it takes is television sets in a kids bedroom and high-quality shows that make children sit, stare and snack to become obese. It really puts a depressing look on America. In my opinion it is a very negative result because it used to not be this way at all. The parents and children put themselves in the situation to becoming obese and television just is an excuse for whenever they actually are obese. I know I will never let my children or close friends get this way due to excess amount of television watching. I have time to watch all my shows I like during the day and still get a good exercise in. I believe that all people can watch their weight and not become obese if they really try. So I really hope the culture changes and fix its look on television with obesity. I do believe that the internet will be used more wisely than television as a medium for delivering content. Television is an older and dull way of showing and sharing shows, movies and advertisements, while now days the nternet can do the same plus a whole lot more. Internet is a lot easier to get to because so many people have smart phones or laptops to be able to quickly access it. I feel like even now I start to see more and more people of all ages on their laptop/computer/smart phone rather than sitting down and watching television shows. Internet is a new (compared to TV) and entertaining way to access World Wide Web. News and broadcast stations are all starting to put their information and ideas on the internet even before they send them to television. While putting the internet into question about my topic, as much as I hate seeing younger kids run around with their own smart phone and/or laptop, it would really help society. Internet will help a lot more in this situation because children that do have smart phones will be able to play outside and exercise with their phone in hand. If the kids do go outside while on their phone it will stop them from sitting in front of a television set, sitting, staring and snacking. Therefore, it will lower the childhood obesity rate in the United States. Childhood obesity is a very heartbreaking yet occurring thing that television influenced and started in the U. S. It has been a very big impact on television and American Culture. After all, we are all hoping and praying that parents help their children get back to how it was back in the day. Have the children exercising, playing outside, and getting involved in sports that way they only spend approximately one hour watching television. We have to lower the childhood obesity rate and will continue to try and stop every way that is involved in it.
